COLONY COUNTERS

Desiccators are used to protect, store or transport moisture sensitive materials while preventing contamination. They contain a product with hygroscopic properties, generally silica gel, that creates a low moisture environment to protect any samples placed inside once it is closed. Some models have a valve to generate vacuum and a manometer to control the pressure. More traditional desiccators are round and have a domed lid, while more sophisticated ones are cubic and have a front door and different shelves. They come in a variety of sizes and materials, such as glass, plastic, polycarbonate, acrylic.
