How to choose the most suitable format of prepared culture media
13 de December de 2023Our catalogue includes a complete range of prepared media. It is important to know all the presentations in order to choose the most suitable prepared culture medium format in each case.
Our dehydrated media and supplements are used for their manufacture, which guarantees quality and flexibility.
The manufacturing process is certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards for medical devices. Quality control is carried out under ISO 11133:2014 and, for ready-to-use solid media, ISO 17025 accredited by ENAC.
The standard presentations available are:
90 mm plates
This is the standard presentation in prepared culture media. The 90 mm plates are available in boxes of 20 plates, separated into two pools of 10 plates each. Optionally, plates can be irradiated and with double or triple packaging.
Product shelf-life: 3 months*.
* If the plates are irradiated, the shelf life can be extended to 4 months.
Standard shelf-life. There are products where this may differ.
55 mm filtration plates
Plates for analysis of water or liquid samples that are subjected to the membrane filtration technique.
These plates come in a cardboard box containing six basins of 5 plates packed in transparent film (30 plates per box).
Product shelf-life: 4 months.
65 mm contact plates
These plates are used for environmental and surface control and Scharlab offers them in two presentations:
Blister: each blister contains 6 individual plates. The plates come in boxes with 5 blister packs (30 plates per box).
Product shelf-life: 6 months.
RD-pack: Transparent PET plastic box containing two 5-plate trays (10 plates). The plates come in boxes of 8 RD-packs (80 plates per box).
Product shelf-life: 4 months.
For both presentations, plates can be irradiated and with double or triple packaging.
Agar in bottles
Long shelf life format designed to be melted and used exactly when required.
Our plastic caps mean the agar can be melted in a microwave, thus reducing preparation times.
Available in:
- Box of 10 bottles: 100 mL (enough to prepare 5 plates)
- Box of 10 bottles: 200 mL (enough to prepare 10 plates)
Please ask about other volumes.
Product shelf life: 12 months.
Broth in bottles
Liquid medium ready for immediate use, intended to pre-enrich and/or dilute samples.
Available in:
- Box of 10 bottles: 90, 100, 200, 225, 450 mL
- Box of 6 bottles: different volumes presented in 1000 mL bottles
Product shelf life: 12 months.
Agar and broth in tubes
Tubes with solid medium for melting and tubes with liquid medium for enrichment, MPN (most probable number) and dilution.
With a special closure to guarantee the medium’s sterility and stability. The filling system ensures minimal deviation from the cited volume for accurate and reproducible results.
- Box of 20 tubes*: 15 or 20 mL (enough to prepare 1 plate)
- Box of 20 tubes: 5, 9, 10, 19, 20 mL
- Box of 20 agar slant tubes
Product shelf life: 12 months.
* Possibility of slant agar for some media.
Broths and diluents in bags – Flexibags
Ideal for food analysis laboratories with a large number of samples to be analysed. The plastic septum of the bag allows easy connection to a gravimetric diluter.
Available in:
- 2 L bags (1 box with 5 bags)
- 3 L bags (1 box with 3 bags)
- 5 L (2 boxes with one 5 l bag each).
Product shelf-life: 12 months.
Prepared culture media for the pharmaceutical industry
Plates with a long shelf life and a long useful life that can be stored at room temperature.
Particularly suitable for environmental testing: 90 mm and contact plates. Double or triple wrapped.
We also have plates with selective media for testing non-sterile products according to Chapter 2.6.13 of the European Pharmacopoeia.
